The KCWorks on WP plugin is now available on Knowledge Commons! This block-based plugin makes it easy to embed citations from the KCWorks repository directly on your WordPress pages, whether you are using the KCSites platform or a self-hosted WordPress installation. KCWorks is an enterprise-grade repository for academic research, collaboration tools, and publishing support for scholars and institutions.
This initial release of the plugin introduces functionality designed to enhance access to and visibility of your scholarly work within the KCWorks system. The plugin allows users to:
- Embed citations for KCWorks searches or collections into any WordPress post, page, or site via the block editor
- Add multiple blocks to display several searches or collections on the same page
- Run searches across the entire KCWorks repository using queries as explained in the KCWorks Search Guide
- List the contents of an entire public KCWorks collection
- Display citations in multiple standard citation formats
These features provide a streamlined means for showcasing repository contributions and collections on websites built with the Knowledge Commons platform, supporting broader dissemination and promoting engagement with open scholarship. A version of the plugin is also available for download on GitHub for those wishing to install it on a non-Knowledge Commons WordPress site.
Using the Plugin
The KCWorks on WP plugin is activated on all Knowledge Commons-hosted sites. To use the plugin, simply search for the KCWorks on WP block in your site’s block editor (Fig. 1) and then enter your search query using the format q=SEARCH_TERM in the textbox labeled Query and clicking the Set Query button (Fig. 2). Items will be displayed using the styles set in your site’s theme.
