Congratulations to our users who earned their first badges last week! And if you’re new to the Knowledge Quest, welcome! 

This week’s quest is all about developing your profile on Knowledge Commons. As soon as you create an account on Commons, you have a profile that you can customize as much or as little as you’d like. Some users let their profile function in place of a full-fledged portfolio website by updating almost every field to show a well-rounded view of who they are. The benefit of updating your Commons profile is some fields are manually edited, while others automatically populate. For example, every time you add something to the KCWorks repository, the link will automatically populate on your profile so anyone can easily see it. There’s no need to create a copy and paste link salad. It’s all right there!

Besides KCWorks uploads, other fields that automatically populate include:

• Groups you join
• Blog posts on Knowledge Commons sites
• Recent Commons activity
• Mastodon posts, if you turn this feature on and have an hcommons.social account

To dig a deeper dive into what you can do to enhance your Commons profile, there are two places to look. The first is in the “Members” directory on the main navigation menu. This way, you can browse the profiles of thousands of Commons members to get a sense of what they’re sharing. The other place to look is our Help & Support site, which has documentation on how to use the site. 

This week’s quest!

Your task this week is to power up your profile! Select your name in the navigation bar, select the edit button, and dive in. Add social media handles, a short bio, a CV, and whatever other information you would like other scholars to know about you. Once you’re done editing, reply to this post with a link to your profile. Important note: on your user profile, you will notice the URL will look something like profile.hcommons.org/my-profile. This is not the link to your actual profile if you would like to share it. Your profile URL will include your Commons username. As an example, my profile link is profile.hcommons.org/members/larissab1/.
