Knowledge Commons’ purpose is to cultivate open spaces for diverse communities to connect, create, share, and experiment, in the service of transforming global knowledge systems together. If this ambition speaks to you, and you’re using or plan to use the Commons for a funded project, we invite you to support our work through a financial contribution.
Project contributions enable us to build and maintain the infrastructure for a vibrant knowledge commons, and help us to continue to offer free access to Knowledge Commons for individuals and projects without funding, which benefits everyone invested in open scholarship.
Just as importantly, we seek to foster relationships with our allies and collaborators. These relationships are what will ultimately drive us forward, as we lean into our collective power and imagination to build the future we envision.
What a Project Contribution Looks Like
We invite project contributions from any team, organization, department, research center or lab that either is using or plans to use Knowledge Commons as part of their suite of tools for a funded project. That could include hosting your website on our platform, leveraging our collaboration tools to build community, or using our repository as a DOI-issuing publishing platform.
We are committed to keeping access to the Commons free of charge by default, but if you are in a position to include us in a project budget, we encourage you to take the opportunity to give back to the community by supporting our ongoing efforts.
As guidance, we suggest a contribution of 2% of your overall project budget, paid either in one lump sum or annually for longer-term undertakings. However, we are very open to a number higher or lower than that if it feels right to you.
All contributing projects receive:
- Recognition as a contributor on our website and other communication channels as appropriate (e.g. conference presentations)
- Opportunities to promote your project through our communications channels
- Invitations to participate in beta testing activities
